Wastewater 101 was in Southern Indiana on Wednesday (9/11/2013) at Bloomington. The two (2) hour topic of training was completing the Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) using the Monthly Report of Operations (MRO). We also reviewed the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit (NPDES). Those present not only learned the correct way to complete the DMR, but they also came to understand the importance of proper sampling and correct data input on the MRO. All certified operators received 2 technical contact hours. It is always a pleasure training in Bloomington, they are so eager to get new information or to be reminded of things they have forgotten.
On Thursday (9/12/13) Wastewater 101 traveled to northeast Indiana to Bluffton. The attendees received 3 technical hours while learning more about Activated Sludge. It was extremely gratifying when I looked out over the attendees and two of the maintenance men were taking notes about process control. Then at the end one of the maintenance men came up and said he heard me speak at a conference and was glad when he heard I would be speaking at the plant. Two of the Fall Certification Review Course attendees were at this training session and they were able to answer questions which showed they were retaining the information from the classes. What a wonderful feeling. I was able to tour the facility and look forward to returning in the future.
