Position Title: Operations Supervisor
Description:
Incumbent works under the direction of the Utility Director. The Operations Supervisor performs first line supervision of the operational personnel. This position is responsible for the operation and preventative maintenance of the wastewater treatment, solids processing and biosolids disposal functions of the facility.
Duties:
Education/Experience/Skills:
1. Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalency. 4-year college degree preferred.
2. Two years experience in supervision of a mechanical WWT Facility.
3. Knowledge of wastewater treatment technology, including equipment, process, theory and problem identification and solution.
4. Possession of a valid Indiana Class III Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Certificate or the ability to obtain within
one (1) year. Class IV Preferred.
5. Ability to perform arithmetic, algebra and geometric problems.
6. Ability to read, write, and verbally explain or demonstrate work instructions in English.
7. Ability to read and interpret as built drawings, equipment manuals, O & M manuals, and process control manuals.
8. Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license or ability to obtain with 90 days.
9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, other departments, contractors, consultants and the public.
10. Ability to use tact, courtesy, diplomacy, and persuasiveness when coordinating and training others.
Salary: $50,000 – $57,000

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Supervises and directs the plant operations and personnel to ensure proper plant functions. Evaluates the plant’s water quality operations, laboratory and maintenance divisions for efficiency and compliance with regulations. Evaluates employee performance ensuring proper work procedures and practices are being followed. Completes and submits all federal and state reporting. Responds to plant emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Assists in preparing annual budget and activities report. Drafts guidelines and policies regarding plant procedures. Periodically performs the duties of the plant operator and solids handling supervisor in the event of an absence.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum experience equivalent to three years through five years in a municipal setting.
TRAINING/SKILLS: Ability to successfully oversee and direct all aspects of plant operations, including chemical testing of water quality, and supervision of a wide range of plant personnel. Knowledge and understanding of all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding plant operations and water quality. Ability to effectively communicate all regulations to operators, solids handling personnel, and maintenance personnel.
LICENSE: WT-5 Water Treatment Operator certification required.
HOURS: 7:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday. Ability to be on 24-hour call for emergency situations.
SALARY: Grade 9 $50,000-$68,327

Job Duties: The Wastewater Superintendent’s position involves operation, management, maintenance and control of the Town of Boswell’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, Lift Stations and Disposal System. This Operator is responsible for protecting the Town’s investment in its equipment and infrastructure by assuring proper operation and maintenance of the facilities. The Operator will assume legal responsibility for the adherence to and enforcement of the Town’s NPDES and Land Permits. It is also the Operators responsibility to stay informed to all relative changes that involve the Town, State & Federal regulations. This position would also include; making required chemical tests and analysis, carrying out day-today responsibilities, along with completing monthly and annual reports required by the State of Indiana and Federal Regulations.
Skills: Time Management, maintenance skills are necessary for this position. Must be a self motivator, resourceful, and innovative. This position requires dealing/working with the public and other Town staff employees on a regular basis; so good communication skills are a must.
