Wastewater 101’s Barbara Smith spent the past two days at the Indiana Alliance of Rural Water 2-day conference in French Lick, Indiana at the French Lick Resort and Casino. I must say it was an awesome location for the convention. If you haven’t had a chance to go, you really need to take a drive down to this peaceful and inspiring place. While you are there you HAVE to check out the West Baden Hotel as well. You can see more about the Resort here: http://www.frenchlick.com/
This was my first conference with this group and I had a great time and heard a lot of good presentations. The staff of Alliance went out of their way to make this a very positive experience, not only for me, but for all the attendees. They provided a lunch and there was a meet and greet with musical entertainment Wednesday. Then on Thursday breakfast was provided before the classes started.
Wednesday morning the exhibit hall was officially opened and the attendees were given a half-hour break to talk to the vendors. There were also other half-hour breaks between sessions to allow attendees the opportunity to return to the exhibit hall to meet more vendors or to continue previous discussions or talk to others in the halls.
While there I reconnected with many people I haven’t seen in years and got to meet so many new people in this field. I spoke on Wednesday about the Basics of Activated Sludge and then on Thursday was Math Basics. Of course in both cases, even though I had one-hour I still ran out of time, but still got the main points across. I hope those in the two classes felt as good about the outcome as I did when finished.
I would urge anyone who has not attended an Alliance Conference in the past to check them out in the future. I also want to Thank them for allowing me to talk about my passion – Wastewater.
