Friday, November 20th was the final day of the Indiana Water Environment Association’s (IWEA) Annual Conference in Indianapolis. Every year the IWEA Conference offers an exceptional learning experience for attendees in all aspects of the field of water and wastewater treatment. If you are looking for a new pump or dissolved oxygen meter it is a place to meet the manufacturer representative for that product. The conference also offers 2 ½ days of networking with others in the same field that may have had the same problems you are experiencing or who can help you find new employment. This year I was honored to be asked to teach a 2-day 12 hour Certification Exam Prep Course for Wastewater Operators. It took a little doing to reduce the course from 16 hours to 12 hours but I think it was a success. Students for this session not only received two days of exam prep training, but they were also invited to attend the ½ of various other sessions on Friday. Being this was the first year of this type of training at the conference I think it can be considered a success with 25 students in attendance. Their backgrounds varied from collection system to laboratory, pretreatment coordinator and we even had an engineer in attendance and they represented facilities all across Indiana. I would like to say it was a pleasure getting to know each and every one of them and want to wish them all the best of luck in the future. I would also like to thank IWEA for asking me to do this training.
