Wastewater 101’s Barb Smith and Larry Smith have been traveling around Indiana the past few months. (For those who attend the sessions you know Larry is the designated driver for Barb and it is so appreciated.) Now normally I am the only one who has fun doing the training, but we have both been enjoying is our trips to Rensselaer, Indiana in the northern part of the state and I have been the Certified Operator for a few months while one of the Operator’s studied to get his Certification. Once he passed the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Class III Exam, Bryce took over as the Certified Operator and I was asked to stay around to assist as need, help put together paperwork, review data and continue training. The City of Rensselaer has 4 employees that work the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant. It is surprising the amount of work these four individuals manage to get done in a work day and how much ingenuity they show trying to solve “design” problems on their own and at costs that don’t break the budget.
This coming week a few of the people from Rensselaer are coming to our neck of the woods so we can see Blue River Technology’s Dewatering Tower in operation at the Knightstown Wastewater Treatment Plant and check out their Sludge Dewatering Bag System located at the Summit Springs Wastewater Plant. While they are in the area we are going to tour the New Castle Wastewater Treatment Plant to see their influent grinders and their belt presses. Hoping to get some photos to post in another blog.
